Jimi Somewhere's love letter to cars everywhere

...or at least his own, and the memories he seems to have created in it.

Benjamin Schandy, alias Jimi Somewhere, released his first single "Escape" back in 2017 and has since dropped two EPs and several singles (both as lead and feature artist, having appeared on songs by artists like bülow, Safario, and boy pablo). With Friday's release of "In My Car" we've now gotten to hear three of the songs from his upcoming debut album Nothing Gold Can Stay (which will hopefully see the light of day in early 2021).

When I first came across Jimi Somewhere back in 2018, I would listen to his debut EP Memoria every day. "In My Car" takes me back to that time. With its synth influences, and more of a dark and romantic feel than previous singles "Bottle Rocket" and "Jesus", it feels like a nod to his first EP. As always, the song is produced by Milo Orchis (Ole Martin Jensen). (So you know who to thank for those sick beats.)

Jimi's music never fails to sound like the soundtrack of one of those classic high school movies about growing up, and the new single is no exception. Starting off with the solid phrase "I broke your window with a rock", "In My Car" talks about being young and in love, and not having a care in the world besides that. But also feeling like the world is yours and that you can do whatever you want with it. And it may be because I'm biased and this song feels like a sort of homage to Memoria, but I enjoy this song so much. It's just great.

As I've already mentioned, "In My Car" is the 3rd single off of Jimi Somewhere's debut album, with "Bottle Rocket" and "Jesus" (featuring Kacy Hill) being released earlier this year. If you haven't already, you should definitely go give those a listen too. "Bottle Rocket" is just in a league of its own (watch the music video for that one below).

(No, I don't know why the thumbnail is medieval-themed.)

This is an artist that always goes all out when it comes to his music and videos, and he never fails to deliver and never disappoints. So if you haven't already listed to any of Jimi Somewhere's songs, I suggest you go do that right now! My personal favorites and some of his greatest songs are "Selfish", "Dusk", "Benton Way", "Bleed" and "Memories" (if you wanna cry that is). As well as his debut single "Escape" and the whole Ponyboy EP (pleASE go listen to that from start to finish, you'll thank me later). You should also check out Milo Orchis's "Apart" featuring Trevor Daniel.
